Review Pioneer DVR-TIVOPioneer has created a great product combing advanced features with ease of use. Featuring an 80GB internal hard drive, Pioneer's 810H DVR-TIVO allows you to retain 80 hours of programming. Additionally, this model offers the ability to directly control cable and satellite sources. Broadband, satellite, and other input options can make gaining control over your input devices seem impossible but an included IR blaster or serial cable allows for the unification of control of the input sources, a feature lacking in many models. This convenience adds the ability to record from a wide range of digital sources. The electronic program guide is updated by the internet source you provide, typically WI-FI or Ethernet. The basic TIVO service included allows you to search through 3 days of programming and does not include the season pass option allowing you to schedule a single program for recording throughout the season. However, the upgrade charge is only $13-$15 dollars per month depending on the payment plan chosen. Once upgraded, you can take advantage of the Home Media feature which allows the streaming of digital music, photos, and video from your home network. This feature also enables you to control remote commands through the internet and connect with other TIVO units within the home network. This unit is ideal for the video enthusiast, however it does lack the ability to edit that is available with some more expensive models. Another feature missing is a FireWire connection that prevents the direct connection of many of today's camcorders (especially the Mini-Cams). However, there are many connectivity options to choose from including: S-Video A/V, dial up connectors, USB, standard coaxial connection for easy TV input and compatibility with components without S-Video. In your spare time you can also use the AV connection 2 to create DVD copies so you can easily convert those old VHS tapes. PureCinema is also featured on the Pioneer DVR-810H and provides a progressive scan ratio of 2:3 providing improved visual quality and a 9bit/27 MHZ Digital Analog Converter. Audio options include CD and MP3 compatibility and Dolby Digital. DTS Digital surround sound outputs will allow you to bring the cinema home. |
